What is Civic Engagement?


Civic Engagement ​consists of individual and collective actions to address issues of public concern and work to aid in the improvement of a community.

Examples:

Working in a non-profit organization, interning with a service organization, serving in a government office, or leading a food drive. Leadership in civic engagement is the ability to initiate civic engagement opportunities and stimulate civic engagement by others.

What Will This Minor Do for Me?

I will learn skills in:

  • ​Organizing others
  • working successfully in a non-profit
  • Communicating with elected officials
  • Helping shape public policy
  • Working effectively in government or other forms of public service
