BYU has a unique capability to help students incorportate public service into their lives. BYU motto is "Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve." The unviersity educates tens of thousands of students who then go out into the world. These alumni, if motivated and adequately trained, can be effective forces in providing leadership in helping better their individual communities, states, and nations.

We seek to add value to an undergraduate's educational experiences by adding specific training in leadership and organizational skills as well as practical hands-on opportunities. We want students to be exposed to practitioners through both classroom presentations as well as through their own off-campus experiences
in civic engagement. We desire them to acquire an understanding of the practical application of civic engagement through models they hear and observe, as well as glean valuable lessons from their own
 han
ds-on activities in participating and leading civic engagement projects.
